Mauretania Green Ammonia is an ammonia project located in the Port of Nouakchott with planned COD in 2030.
This is the most developed and advanced initiative of Hynfra on the African continent.
The business concept of Mauretania Green Ammonia (MGA) revolves around the production of green ammonia as its primary product. Energy generated through renewable energy sources (RES) will primarily fulfill the operational requirements of the facility with any surplus energy injected into the power grid serving the Nouakchott region.
To facilitate the Project implementation, SPV - Mauritania Green Ammonia SARL has been established as a joint venture between Hynfra and Maurev Sarl.

Infrastructure
The Project’s facilities are to be located near the state-owned Port of Nouakchott, the largest port in Mauritania and the primary gateway for the country's maritime trade. The port's strategic location near key shipping routes makes it an essential hub for both regional and international trade.
Social factors
Green hydrogen projects in Mauritania can offer significant social benefits in addition to economic gains. Only about 68% of the population has access to potable water, with rural areas experiencing acute shortages. Additionally, the country's electricity access rate stands at 48.9%, leaving many without reliable power. By leveraging the abundant renewable energy resources, these projects can help address critical infrastructure needs, providing reliable electricity and clean water to remote and underserved communities.
