The green ammonia project in Colombia is the most promising green ammonia production initiative undertaken by Hynfra in South America.

The project installations are planned in the northern, coastal part of the La Guajira region, characterized by exceptionally favorable conditions for harnessing wind and solar energy.

The business concept of CGA revolves around green ammonia as the primary product. However, the technological concept of industrial facilities presents the potential for additional revenue streams derived from the sale of surplus renewable energy sources (RES) electricity, desalinated water, process steam, or oxygen.

Infrastructure

The chemical facilities of the Project will be situated between two ports: the Port of Manaure, which primarily handles salt exports, and the Port of Puerto Bolívar, the largest coal-export port in Latin America.

Ammonia is pivotal to Colombia's industry, primarly due to the substantial demand for fertilizers, with consumption exceeding 2 million tonnes annually.

In 2022, the import value of fertilizers and ammonia amounted to 1.3 USDb and 40 USDm, respectively.
